"Moms Demand Action" Group Rallies For Gun Reform

January 08, 2019 06:00 PM

(ABC 6 News) -- The "Moms Demand Action" group filled the state Capitol today, calling for gun reform, specifically background checks and red flag laws.

Those laws would allow family members and law enforcement to petition a court for temporary removal of a person's firearms if they pose a risk to themselves or others.

Several people spoke in favor of that, including a man whose family member died from gun violence.

"My sister Diane was murdered, shot and murdered, as she exited her car in Chicago," said Bob Mokos, a member of the Everytown Survivor Network. "Since then, thousands of Americans have lost their lives to gun violence. Those numbers will continue to climb unless measures are put in place to stem the flow."

People who support the Second Amendment are expected to rally at the Capitol next week.

Lawmakers we spoke with today say they do expect gun legislation to come up this session.
