(ABC 6 News) - Rochester Mayor Ardell Brede says he's close to offing the job of Police Chief to one of the two remaining finalists.

Mayor Brede tells ABC 6 News barring a psychological and medical exam, he will be extending a conditional offer to one of the two police chief finalists.

He says there's no set date to make the offer, but hopes to do so sometime this week and to have everything in order by July 4.

As we've reported, Roy Alston, who is a lieutenant in Dallas, Texas, was removed from consideration after it was discovered he had omitted a written reprimand, that had taken place 12 years earlier, from his application.

The two remaining candidates are Mark Elliot, who is currently serving as the Police Chief in Prior Lake and James Franklin, who is currently the Captain of the West Command Division of the Metropolitan Transit Police in Minneapolis.
