(ABC 6 News) -- Rochester police said they've had 16 incidents so far in 2019, and 10 incidents in 2018, involving David Galvan, the man accused of stabbing a woman in Rochester Tuesday afternoon.

The woman is a teacher at Rochester Arts and Science Academy and was walking with five children from a park back to school when the stabbing happened.

According to Rochester Police Lieutenant Mike Sadauskis, an officer thought he knew who the suspect was, and showed a picture to the victim. She identified him and authorities soon found him with a pair of scissors in his waistband.

Once he was arrested Galvan allegedly said "totally wrong of me and that's fine", according to Lt. Sadauskis.

(ABC 6 News) - Rochester police have identified the man they say randomly attacked a woman while she was walking with a group of kids Tuesday afternoon.

According to a press release, around 3 p.m. in the area of 18th Ave. SW and Folwell DR. SW a 24-year-old woman walking near Folwell Elementary School with a group of children was assaulted and reportedly stabbed by 28-year-old David Daniel Galvan.

The victim told police Galvan was walking on the opposite side of the street, then he crossed the street and approached the group from behind swinging his arms and a bag he was carrying.

Police said the woman put herself between Galvan and the kids, that's when he reportedly stabbed her once in the back with a long, shiny metal object.

The suspect reportedly took off, running down Highway 52 toward 12th St. SW.

Galvan was taken into custody at 3:15 p.m. by an Olmsted County Sheriff's Deputy on the 600 block of Memorial Parkway SW without incident.

Police said a scissors was found inside the waistband of his pants and  that the victim did positively identify him.

The victim was taken to Saint Marys with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said Galvan has had numerous contact with law enforcement in the past and has no listed address.

Rochester Police Chief Jim Franklin confirmed with ABC 6 News Galvan is the same man arrested in late September after allegedly burglarizing a SE Rochester home and barricading himself inside.
