Police Arrest Third Suspect in Purse Theft, Connect Him to Shooting

(ABC 6 News) -- Rochester police arrested a third person Thursday afternoon, bringing to three the number of people allegedly involved with the robbery of a Luis Vuitton purse earlier this week. Two of them, including the latest man arrested, are also suspects in a recent shooting. 

The robbery happened around 1 a.m. on Sunday, August 12 on the 1700 block of 40 St. NW. According to police, a 16-year-old was walking down the street when a car pulled up next to him and someone he knew got out, assaulted him, took his iPhone and his Luis Vuitton purse. The victim told police the purse was worth $16,000.

Ronald Burks III, 19, was arrested Thursday during a traffic stop at 7th Street and 11th Avenue NW. Police believe he's the person who actually stolen the purse.

He faces a possible charge of first-degree aggravated robbery.

On Wednesday, police arrested 19-year-old Thaddeaus Merritt of Rochester and a juvenile in connection to the robbery. Both are facing a possible aiding an offender charge. 

On Tuesday,Merritt was questioned by police in connection with gunshots being fired in Rochester. He's being considered a suspect in that case as well. 

Also in connection to the shooting, police searched a vehicle they found near the scene and say they found three handguns inside, both of which were stolen out of Rochester. More arrests are expected as police continue to investigate.

Neither Merritt nor Burks have been charged in the shooting.
