(ABC 6 News) – Rochester Mayor Kim Norton returned to Rochester Wednesday after attending President Biden’s State of the Union address in D.C.

“I do think there were a few moments where people gasped. You know, it’s like woah,” Norton said.

She says she felt uncomfortable about some of the rowdy behavior in the chamber Tuesday evening. But thinks there was some good bipartisan messaging too.

Representative Brad Finstad invited her to the event. It was her first time attending the State of the Union address in person.

Norton says she’s especially concerned about whether or not Congress will be able to raise the national debt ceiling.

“We just have to hope that people that run for office, run for office because they want to do good. And that at the end of the day, the decision they will make will be for the greater good and not for their personal agenda. That’s my hope,” Norton explained.

While there, Norton also caught up with other minnesota and midwest representatives.

After the address she attended House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s reception.
