A Rochester gaming store employee is recovering after being hit in the head with a hammer Monday night.
Around 8:50 p.m. February 19, Rochester Police Captain John Sherwin said a 23-year-old GameStop employee was working by himself when two men walked into the business located at 3780 Marketplace Dr. NW. According to the employee, the men began asking him questions about a game and the next thing he knew he was waking up on the floor, covered in blood.
The employee said the men were still in the store when he regained consciousness, but he was able to get away and ask for help at the nearby Cold Stone Creamery store, said Captain Sherwin.
After reviewing surveillance video from inside GameStop, police determined the employee was hit in the head with a hammer by one of the suspects. The victim underwent surgery this morning for a fractured skull and remains in critical but a stable condition.
Captain Sherwin said the suspect described both men as being in their early 20's, around 5'9"-5'10", with skinny builds, and wearing jackets, boots, jeans and winter gloves. One of the suspects was wearing a ski mask that covered part of his face. The victim believes the suspects may be of Hispanic descent based on the color of their skin.
Captain Sherwin said the suspects were able to get away with around $1000 worth of merchandise.
