(ABC 6 News) -- Firefighters fight more than just fires. Friday, the Rochester Fire Department trained for elevator rescues.
Chad Kuhlman, with the Rochester Fire Department, said, "In 2017, there were 25 elevator rescues in the city of Rochester performed. Every firefighter in the city of Rochester will be going through this training."
The training focused on how to properly perform mild emergencies, with a key, and more compact situations where firefighters forcibly open elevator doors. With more hotels being built in Rochester, firefighters said it's important to understand each layout.
Kuhlman said, "We want to train and know exactly how we're going to do things when we're going to do things before an emergency should arise so that we can act appropriately and quickly to get the occupants that are stuck in an elevator car out as quick as possible."
