(ABC 6 News) - Efforts to restore Rochester's last remaining brick road began Friday.
The historic brick street is located on 9th Ave SW between 6th and 7th Street. Between the weather, age, and very little maintenance the road was in much-needed repair.
Six neighbors agreed to pay the city, about $50,000 each, to reuse the existing bricks.
Jan Daly, a resident on the street, said the project has taken years to plan. "The whole neighborhood came together. In three short days, we had 400 signatures to send to the city if they requested to save the last original exposed brick street," Daly said.
Construction is estimated to wrap up on November 5.
