(ABC 6 News) -- Heavy rains hit Harmony Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
"It was a busy night. A lot of rain and thunder and lightning so we knew we were in for quite a rainstorm,” said Domingo Kingsley, store manager of Kingsley Mercantile.
Harmony saw three to six inches of rain, enough to give a golf course a pond, flood multiple basements and keep a local hardware store extra busy.
"Right from the start we came in we had a little water in our business. I helped shop-vacuum that up. As soon as we opened the doors and turned on the lights our phone was ringing right off the hook,” he said.
Most people who came into the shop said they had a few inches of water in their basements, but some were hit harder than others.
"The worst I think I've heard is a foot of rain. I think my neighbor said she might've even had two to three feet,” he said.
Becky Hoff saw some standing water in the basement of her soon to be open consignment shop Bee Balm.
"It was such a heavy flash flood rain that we're all just kind of damp today,” she said.
Something she thinks seems more common lately.
"We seem to these last few years be getting higher rainfalls and higher rain totals. It seems like this does happen more often than usual now,” she said.
Kingsley thought this time seemed especially tough.
"This is uff -dah. It's been a while,” he said. “I'd say probably a couple of years since a big storm like this."
For those spending the next few days cleaning up, he has some advice:
"Definitely jump on it with a shop-vac, squeegee it out, get it away for your major appliances,” he said.
