UPDATE: Authorities Say Suspicious Device Not Directed towards Church

UPDATE: (ABC 6 News) -- Rochester Police said the suspicious device discovered near Mayo Clinic and a church Wednesday, was found under a bench at a Rochester city bus stop. 

Rochester Police Captain Casey Moilanen said officers searched Calvary Episcopal Church on 3rd Avenue southwest, near the Gonda Building, as a precaution, but did not find anything inside the sanctuary. 


Moilanen also said they did not uncover any information that indicates the potential threat was directed at the church. 

The area was cleared around 9 o'clock Wednesday night. 

Rochester Police are searching for a suspect.

(ABC 6 News) -- We are tracking a developing situation in downtown Rochester after a city block near Mayo Clinic has been blocked off with police tape after reports of a potential bomb threat. 

Authorities say a suspicious item similar to that of a large battery, with wires, was placed underneath a bench in front of the Calvary Episcopal Church on 3rd Avenue southwest. 

The St. Paul Bomb squad is currently on the way to the scene to assist with the investigation.
