The Rochester Police Department's Facebook page posted Thursday:

"Crime Prevention tip of the day: When sending mail, the most secure place to mail a package or letter is directly at your local USPS Post Office or other secure mail drop-off sites. The Rochester Police Department has seen an increase in theft of mail waiting for pickup from unsecured curbside mailboxes."

Rochester Police are also encouraging citizens to send their mail from the post office, or hand it directly to a mail carrier to ensure their outgoing mail is not stolen. They also said to collect mail from the mailbox soon after it's delivered.
