(ABC 6 News) -- Rochester Police say a family was terrorized by a man with a machete who invaded their home on Friday.

Police say Harun Ali Abdulle entered an apartment on Kenosha Drive in northwest Rochester around noon on Friday. And once inside, police say Abdulle slashed the sofas and broke a television with the machete while three children were present.  Police say the victims expressed fear for their lives and the children's safety as Abdulle wielded the machete in anger. Police say Abdulle left the residence before they arrived at the scene.

Approximately three hours later, officers returned to the residence after victims reported was calling and making threats to the family.  Police say Abdulle communicated with the family and told them he slashed one of the tires to a vehicle parked at the residence. Police say Abdulle also left a voicemail to the family with the message that "he was going to cut them up into pieces with a knife." An officer also spoke with Abdulle on the phone and this time, police say, Abdulle stated "he was going to return and finish the family off."

Around 5:45 p.m. an officer spotted Abdulle driving near the intersection of 12th St. and 4th Ave. SE where he was arrested without incident.  The machete was recovered in the vehicle Abdulle was driving.

He was brought to the Olmsted County Detention Center where is he is being held due to public concerns.

He is expected to appear in court.
