(ABC 6 News) -- On Saturday Mason City Police and Mason City High School officials released information about an incident regarding a student making a threat towards the safety and staff at the Mason City High School.  Police said the incident took place on Friday, February 23, at 4:00 pm. 

High school officials alerted the Mason City Police Department through the school resource officer and the police department took over the investigation from that point. As a result of the investigation, the student who made the threat was referred to Juvenile Court Services on charges related to the incident.

School officials in a statement said "The safety and well-being of our students and staff are the number one priority of the Mason City Community Schools. At no time during the investigation of this incident was there a direct threat to students or staff."

Mason City Community School District also mentioned in the same statement that classes may resume as normal on Monday, February 26th.
