Breaking News: MCPD Cancel Missing Person Report for Alonzo Higgins

(ABC 6 News) -- Mason City Police Department has canceled the missing person report filed on October 6 for Alonzo Higgins, after Los Angeles Police verified his location in California. 

According to a press release from Mason City Police, the report was canceled just before midnight on Thursday, after Police say, Higgins contacted his family by phone telling them he was in Los Angeles, California. 


Higgins had traveled to Minneapolis by bus, where he took a plane to Los Angeles. He called his family from a homeless shelter saying he was safe.

Los Angeles Police have verified his location and condition. According to Mason City Police, Higgins' family members are making arrangement to reunite with him on Friday.  


(ABC 6 News) - The Mason City Police Department has released more details into the investigation of missing 27-year-old Alonzo Higgins.

According to a press release, Higgins got on a Minneapolis-bound Jefferson bus in Mason City on October 1 before 8 a.m. and it's unknown if he arrived at his destination.

Police said he left a note saying he was heading to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area for a church seminar but investigators and his family have been unable to find any sponsored events during that time period.

MCPD also said Higgins expressed some 'possible paranoid beliefs' in another letter that was delivered to a separate location sometime between October 1-6.

Police said there may be a medical condition that is contributing to the "unusual" events surrounding this case and that they believe he may be taken advantage of in his current state.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Mason City Police Department have released a few more details in the search for Alonzo Higgins, who was reported missing earlier this month.

The BCA said Higgins was last seen boarding a bus to Minneapolis on October 1 and was expected to return home on October 5 and that authorities are concerned for his welfare.

Higgins is autistic and the BCA said he may be staying in a homeless shelter and may have participated in some type of church seminar.

He's described as 5'11" and 170 pounds.

Overnight, the Mason City Police Department sent out information regarding a missing man who lives in Mason City.

Mason City Police say they are asking the public's help in finding 27-year-old Alonzo Higgins, who was last seen by his family on October 1st. Police say "due to some unusual circumstances surrounding his disappearance" they filed a missing person report for him.
