(ABC 6 News) -- Starting Monday, Rochester city officials say a permanent traffic pattern change will take effect at the intersection of 23rd Street Southwest and 4th Avenue Southwest.
They say motorists will have to get used to a stop sign on the northbound and southbound lanes of 4th Avenue Southwest. Eastbound traffic traveling on 23rd Street Southwest will not be required to stop.
The current traffic pattern requires eastbound and westbound traffic to stop along 23rd Street Southwest and those traveling on the north and south lanes of 4th Avenue SW do not stop.
Advanced signage regarding the traffic change will be in place for a few weeks.
City officials say changing the traffic patterns at this intersection will create a safer intersection considering the steep hill approaching the intersection. Traffic stopped on 4th Avenue SW will be better able to see and respond to traffic traveling along 23rd Street SW because of its flat topography.
