(ABC 6 News) - According to the Minnesota State Patrol, preliminary reports show that 113 motorists died on Minnesota roads in 2018 in speed-related crashes. That is the most since 2008, when there were 125 fatalities.

There will be extra speed enforcement statewide from June 18-July 21; that includes police officers, sheriffs' deputies and state troopers from more than 300 agencies across Minnesota. Authorities are stressing that motorists obey the speed limits and don't drive aggressively.

The Patrol also said when comparing numbers for the five-year periods of 2009-2013 to 2014-2018, there was a 12 percent increase in speed-related fatalities and a 24 percent increase in speed-related serious injuries.

Again, authorities are reminding every motorist to drive carefully and follow the rules of the road.
