(ABC 6 News) - According to the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office, a buffalo is on the loose.

Captain Scott Behrns said a man called law enforcement after he was tending to his cattle Sunday evening and saw a buffalo walking around the 4800 block of 40th Street SW.

Behrns said Sheriff's Deputies located the buffalo and attempted to read his ear tag, but when they got closer, the buffalo seemed "visually agitated" and began urinating a lot. Fearing a possible charge from the animal, Behrns said the deputies left the area for safety reasons. The buffalo was last seen roaming north of that spot. Behrns estimated that the buffalo weighs somewhere between 1500-1800 lbs.

Behrns said the buffalo's owner has been located and is currently working with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to bring the animal home.
