Officials say 28-year-old Kelsey Boehnke of Clear Lake went out onto the ice to try and rescue her dog that had wandered onto the pond. In the process of trying to rescue her dog, officials say, Boehnke fell thru and sunk in the waters.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they learned that officers from the Clear Lake Police Department had pulled the Boehnke out the water. Firefighters then took her to an ambulance and she was brought to Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Rescue crews described the condition of the woman as having hypothermia.

Emergency crews had a rescue boat on standby in case it was needed to assist with the saving the woman from the waters.

According to Clear Lake Fire Department spokesperson, Josh Pokorney, "The dog was rescued and our understanding from family members is that it is doing fine."
