(ABC 6 News) -- There are many events in our region taking place on Monday geared towards honoring our fallen troops. If you're wondering how to take part in at least one of them, here's a working list of events happening on Memorial Day this year:

Rochester:

The Memorial Day Program will start with music from the Plummer Carillon:

9:15 AM  Plummer Carillon

9:45 AM  Procession from Central Park along 1st Avenue to Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial

10:30 AM Program at Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial 

12:00 PM  Rochester VFW Post 1215 will be honoring the dead whose remains are buried at sea at the East Center St. Bridge by Mayo Park (Wreath Over the Water Ceremony)

  • Combined color guards, firing squads, and auxiliary will be rendering honors
  • Rochester Thor Detachment #606 Marine Corps League
  • Rochester American Legion WM T McCoy Post 92
  • Rochester VFW Whitlock-Sonnenberg Post 1215

After the services at the 7th Street Bridge, there will be services at the local cemeteries: 

  • Oakwood 12:30 PM
  • Calvary 12:30 PM
  • Farm Hill 1:15 PM
  • Quarry Hill Park West 2:15 PM
  • Oakwood 3:30 PM 

Austin:

Memorial Day events schedule in Austin, MN:

6:50 a.m. Flag Raising at V.F.W and American Legion

7:00 a.m. Breakfast for all Memorial Day Participants at the American Legion Post 91

7:45 a.m. Raise flag and program at Veterans Memorial - Mower County Courthouse

8:30 a.m. Parade line-up 4th Avenue NE

8:45 a.m Parade (4th ave NE, South on Main St. and East on 2nd ave NE)

9:30 a.m. Memorial Day service at Oakwood Cemetery

10:15 a.m. Honor Navy, Marine, and Coast Guard Service persons buried at sea at the Horace Austin State Park Bridge with firing a salute and depositing of the wreath in the river.

11 a.m. Calvary Cemetery - V.F.W/DAV

Grandview Cemetery - American Legion

11:30 a.m. Enterprise - American Legion

Albert Lea:

The Veterans of Foreign Wars will lead Memorial Day services in Albert Lea this year. Buried veterans will be honored beginning at 8 a.m. at Lakewood Cemetery, then at St. Theodore Cemetery at 8:15 a.m. and Hillcrest Cemetery at 8:45 a.m.

A memorial service for those fallen during conflict or war will follow at 9 a.m. at the Freeborn County Courthouse. The flag will be lowered and raised.

There will also be a ceremony at Fountain Lake Park at 9:30 a.m. A wreath will be thrown off the dock, and another will be dropped in the lake by float plane.

Events conclude at Graceland Cemetery at 11 a.m.

Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston:

715 Highway 52, Preston, MN, 55965-1145

The state veterans cemetery in Preston, will host a Memorial Day ceremony on Sunday beginning at 1:30 p.m., rain or shine. There will be music from the 34th Infantry Division Band and the M-Saxteen saxophone ensemble, followed by a program and a Parade of Flags.

U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Craig Neuzil will be the guest speaker. Because of the high number of people expected to attend, those planning to go are asked to bring lawn chairs and carpool if possible.

Cannon Falls, MN: (Cannon Falls Police Dept.)

This year the Cannon Falls Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. from Merchants Bank. The parade route will be south from the bank to Park Street, right on Park to 4th Street, north on 4th Street to Mill Street, east on Mill Street to 1st Street North, and then Hwy. 19 to the city cemetery.

A special program will begin at the cemetery at about 11:00 a.m. Rod Johnson will be the master of ceremonies. The featured speaker will be Bill Murphy, VFW 1st District Chaplain. The invocation and benediction will be given by Paster Glen Herrington-Hall, First Congregational Church.

Mason City, Iowa:

The Mason City Veterans Memorial Association will hold Memorial Day services with an assembly at 9:15 a.m. and services at 9:30 a.m. at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. The Mason City High School band will perform a prelude and “The Star Spangled Banner.”

Clear Lake, Iowa: 

The Clear Lake Memorial Day program, sponsored by the VFW Saratoga Post 4868, begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Sea Wall with music by the Clear Lake High School Band. The observance will then move to the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Charles City, Iowa:

Memorial Day Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Floyd County Courthouse.  Bring your lawn chairs.  In case of rain, service will be held at VFW.
