(ABC 6 News) More than $40,000 was donated in area Red Kettles during day one of a matching event with the Mayo Clinic.

The total of $44,395 is just from cash and check, the coin total has not been released.

The matching event continues through Friday in Rochester, Stewartville and Chatfield.

The Mayo Clinic and Salvation Army are teaming up this week for an unlimited donation matching event.

On Thursday, Dec. 19 and Friday, Dec. 20, the Mayo Clinic will be matching all donations dropped into Red Kettles in Rochester, Stewartville and Chatfield. This includes checks, credit card and cash donations.

“We are so grateful to Mayo Clinic for their continued support and for this exceptionally generous gift,” said Major Robert Mueller, Corps Officer of The Salvation Army, “The Salvation Army’s programs in this community are life changing to those individuals and families utilizing our services.  By matching the dollars in the kettle, Mayo Clinic is helping bring hope and healing to thousands of our neighbors in need. Having bell ringers at the kettles makes all of that possible.”

The Salvation Army says it is also in desperate need of volunteers ahead of the event, which has 688 hours being covered by bell ringers.

To register to ring visit the Salvation Army website or call 507-288-3663.
