(ABC 6 News) - Mayo Clinic has denied a request by Minnesota Lt. Governor Tina Smith to delay the planned consolidation of services between Mayo Clinic Health System's Albert Lea and Austin hospitals.

In a statement issued Friday, Mayo Clinic wrote, "To ensure the highest-quality health care, we are moving forward with the optimization plans. We will continue engaging with the community as we move through subsequent phases of the plan."
