(ABC 6 News) - The Dodge County Sheriff's Office said an 81-year-old man is dead after a crash in Mantorville Wednesday morning.

According to the sheriff's office, around 7:26 a.m. law enforcement was called to the area of 3rd Street West and Walnut Street in Mantorville for a report of a man who had been hit by a piece of construction equipment.

When deputies arrived at the scene they discovered a bicyclist had been run over by a water tanker.

The victim, identified by the sheriff's office as Darrel Faulkner, of Mantorville; was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe Faulkner was riding his bike along the same road as the truck was traveling, at some point the truck made contact with Faulkner who went down on his bicycle and was caught underneath and was run over.

The driver told law enforcement he never saw Faulkner in the roadway.

The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting in reconstructing the incident and inspecting the truck involved.

Once the sheriff's office completes their crash report it will be submitted to the state.

At this time the sheriff's office said there are no charges expected to be filed against the driver.
