(ABC 6 News) - Authorities have identified the man killed in a grain bin accident as 80-year-old Norman Backhaus, of rural Manly.
The Worth County Sheriff's Office said they received a call Monday about an 80-year-old man possible trapped inside a grain bin.
Emergency crews arrived and the subject was later located inside the bin unresponsive. At this time the name of the subject is not being released due to notifying the next of kin.
Assisting the Worth County Sheriff’s Office at the scene was the Manly Police Department, Iowa DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Manly Fire & Rescue, Kensett Fire & Rescue, Northwood Fire & Rescue, Mason City Ambulance, Life flight 2 out of Fort Dodge, Viafield Coop, POET, and several area farmers.
A man has been found dead inside a grain bin near Manly, Iowa.
The Worth County Sheriff Dan Fank said first responders were called to a farm on the 1300 block of 370th St. around 11 a.m., Monday.
Fank said a man's body was found after emptying the bin.
According to authorities, this is Worth County's firs grain bin fatality of 2018. One man was killed in a grain bin accident in Cerro Gordo County on August 31.
More information is expected to be released Tuesday.
