Man Hit by Lightning; Dozens of Trees Snap in Half after Storms Barrel Through

(ABC 6 News) -- Medical professionals are observing a man Saturday after he was hit by lightning during storms that barreled through Southeast Minnesota.

ABC 6 News spoke with Freeborn County authorities and they say the man is conscious and was brought to the hospital.  The victim was at Minnie Maddern Street in Albert Lea when the lightning struck him.

The Law Enforcement Center in Albert Lea also lost power and are dealing with some communications issues. 

In the meantime, Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services is reporting thousands of customers are without power as of 1:00 p.m. Saturday.  Several ABC 6 News viewers also sent photos and reported downed trees on the streets, driveways, and properties. Fallen trees can be seen on power lines which caused electrical issues and some problems with railroad arms going down. Several cars had to manuever around it to cross the railroad tracks in Albert Lea.
