(ABC 6 News) -- A Stewartville Marine got an early Veterans’ Day surprise.
When Mike Woltman walked through his door Thursday night, he was greeted by someone special – a 10-week-old English Bulldog.
“He’s wanted a bulldog for as long as I’ve known him. This is awesome. He’s just going to love her to death,” said Toni Woltman, Mike’s wife.
Service is something that runs in Mike’s family.
His dad was in the Navy, and his brother and son are in the Marines.
“I’ve always wanted a bulldog,” he said.
Leah Lynse, who owns Lonely Acres English Bulldogs, got together with a handful of other local businesses to do something special for a veteran.
Since dogs are her business, she thought a bulldog could be the perfect fit.
“They really provide a lot of emotional support. Pick you up when you’re feeling blue,” she said.
As far as what Mike plans to name his new companion?
“I’m actually thinking Liberty,” he said.
