(ABC6 News) -- If you're looking for a 2019 calendar, a local entrepreneur has you covered. As ABC6 News previously reported, Edward Cohen makes calendars for the visually impaired.
"I didn't start this business because I was bored in my retirement," he said. "I didn't start this business because I needed a job. I needed a product to make my life easier, so I did it."
In 2015, Cohen developed the EZ2SEE calendar. He is legally blind, which makes writing in a regular planner difficult.
His calendars have wide open spaces, big letters, and a black edge, signaling the end of the page.
The 2019 calendars were shipped out to businesses in June, but so far, sales have been flat.
"We did about as much this year as we did last year," Cohen said, "but last year we saw a big jump over the previous year. I assumed there'd be a big jump from last year to this year, but I haven't really seen it."
Part of the problems is making sure that people who need the product know about it.
"I've learned through my research that there are millions upon millions of people for whom this product would be very helpful, and yet I've only been able to reach in the thousands," Cohen said.
So he enlisted some help from Online Social Media Marketer Patty Fletcher.
"It turns out that she is also blind, so there was an immediate affinity," Cohen said.
Fletcher knew she wanted to work with Cohen, because of his attitude toward the world.
"Being a sight-impaired person can be rather frustrating," she said. "When he saw that he could not purchase what he needed, he went out and created something."
She helps him run his Facebook page, find marketing opportunities and reach out to low vision specialists.
In the new year, Fletcher hopes to find someone to help Cohen run the business, so he can create more products.
"One person running a business is very difficult," she said. "It's hard to expand if you're just one person."
