(ABC 6 News) - A LeRoy man suffered multiple burns after an explosion and fire at his home Thursday afternoon.
According to the Mower County Sheriff's Office, Daniel Bartel, 63, was doing some electrical work in a detached garage at his home in the 500 block of Main Street E around 2 p.m. when multiple witnesses reported hearing an explosion and seeing smoke coming from the garage.
After hearing the explosion, 32-year-old Pedro Padron, who was installing drywall at the home, saw Bartel exit the garage on fire, the sheriff's office said. He helped put out the flames on Bartel.
Bartel then asked Padron to pull some items from the garage, the sheriff's office said. Padron was able to remove multiple items, including multiple cans of fuel.
The LeRoy Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire.
Bartel was taken to Mayo Clinic Hospital Saint Marys Campus in Rochester with burns to his right arm and chest. Padron declined medical attention at the scene.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The state fire marshal is also investigating.
