Vandekamp Found Her Voice

(ABC 6 News) - A Rochester woman and former soldier is the state's Veterans' Voices award winner.

Kendra Vandekamp joined the Minnesota Army National Guard in 2011 and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2013.

After her honorable discharge, she was named chairwoman of the state's DAV Women Veterans Committee.

The Minnesota Humanities Center recognizes veterans who write about their military experiences to find their voice and process their experiences.
 
Vandekamp will share her work at the October 5th award ceremony in St. Paul.
