(ABC 6 News) -- After more than 60 years of producing milk products in Rochester, the Kemps manufacturing facility will end operations at the end of June.
This past fall, Associated Milk Producers Inc. (AMPI) shut down production of its Rochester plant. Kemps leased a portion of the AMPI building for milk production.
“Business decisions that impact people’s lives are difficult,” said Greg Kurr, president and chief executive officer at Kemps. “In evaluating our options, it became apparent ceasing operations is the best long-term strategy for our business. The employees at this facility have done an excellent job, and we greatly appreciate their hard work and dedication.”
The plant, where 125 people are currently employed, will stop operating on June 30, 2020. In order to assist employees impacted by the closing, Kemps will work with the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development to help them through this transition.
The closure does not impact Kemps’ ice cream manufacturing facility also located in Rochester.
