(ABC 6 News) - According to one of Julio Baez's daughters, the Criminal Sexual Conduct allegations against her father come from people known to him. However, Veronica Baez is defending her father. She tells ABC 6 News her father is a good man who put her through college. She also says she would have known if something was going on.
During Baez's arraignment Thursday morning, his defense attorney also brought up the phrase, "potential foul play" in connection to Baez's attempted suicide earlier this month. It was revealed he allegedly had 9 gunshot wounds. Veronica says her father doesn't remember the attempted suicide, but that there would not have been that many wounds from the weapon he used.
Baez, who is listed as Julio Baez-Cisneros on the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center website is a Kasson Police Officer under investigation for Criminal Sexual Conduct.
He has been officially charged with 3 counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct. He did not enter a plea today but did maintain his innocence during Thursday's arraignment.
The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office says the investigation is focusing on allegations that began in 1992 and occurred in various counties including Olmsted and Dodge. But it says so far, the investigation has revealed only one incident of domestic abuse in 2004 that occurred while Baez was working in an official capacity with the Kasson Police.
Three alleged victims have come forward. The Sheriff’s Office will not comment on whether they believe there are more victims.
Baez apparently tried to kill himself earlier in June. He was found in a rural area, near Kasson, with what appeared to be several self-inflicted gunshot wounds to his chest and shoulder area.
He was taken into custody earlier this week after he was released from the hospital.
Baez is due back in court next month.
