UPDATE: FBI Investigating JM Bomb Threat

May 10, 2018 10:39 AM

(ABC 6 News) - Rochester Police said some reports following Wednesday's bomb threat at John Marshall High School have been turned over to the FBI, which is standard procedure.

According to Lt. Mike Sadauskis, police received a call around 9:10 a.m. on May 9, for a bomb threat at John Marshall. Shortly before they called the police, school administration told authorities they had received two phone calls within minutes of each other from someone who said he was going to "blow up the school, and a bomb was in the school." An evacuation of the entire school quickly followed.

Rochester Police, along with the Rochester Fire Department and two police K9's that are trained to detect explosives, did a thorough sweep of the school, said Lt. Sadauskis. Students were sent to other buildings in the area during that time. Around 11:30 a.m. police gave the "all clear", and said nothing suspicious was ever found.

Lt. Sadauskis said these types of threats are common across the nation as the school year winds down and that school administration and police take these threats seriously.

According to the school's Facebook page, a thorough sweep of the school with a K9 Unit found nothing that would indicate the threat was credible.

Students are now returning to school.
