(ABC 6 News) -- Something is happening at a Rochester intersection that is capturing the attention of drivers during their morning commute.

He can stop traffic.

"He's just been a fun little character," said Cheri with the Waters on Mayowood.

He likes to be the center of attention.

"He's very entertaining, let's put it that way," said Polly Baker.

And he's kind of a nuisance.

"Sometimes he goes to Panera, pecks on the window and looks in," Cheri said.

Meet the turkey affectionately named Jake by residents at the Waters on Mayowood.

For the past month or so, Jake has spent his mornings at the intersection of 16 Street and Mayowood Road in Rochester.

“He’s out in traffic, and up and down our sidewalk, he sits on top of cars. Sometimes he fluffs up his feathers because it’s mating season, so he looks very beautiful outside,” Cheri said.

Nobody seems to know why Jake showboats at this busy intersection.

“Stopping traffic, people taking pictures," said Pat Scripture who lives at the Waters on Mayowood.

Maybe this wild turkey is protesting the new Buffalo Wild Wings that’s set to open.

“He’s really smart, smarter than we think he is,” Polly said.

Maybe he’s just looking for a friend.

“He’s a sweetheart, but kind of a safety hazard for people on the road.  He needs to go somewhere safe,” said Cheri

And on Tuesday... “Ha… there he goes,” Pat said.

Our feathered friend got the special treatment from our friends in blue. A police escort to a safer location.

It probably won’t be the last time we see this wild turkey. So if you do, use a little patience and give Jake some space to shake a tail feather.
