Increased Number of Package Thefts

December 08, 2018 11:38 PM

(ABC 6 News) -- With the holiday season in full swing, many are shopping in stores and online. And according to Rochester Police, with an increased number of packages being delivered on people's doorsteps comes an increased number of package thefts and suspicious activity.  On Friday, a Rochester resident says she lost some packages delivered to her doorstep. According to that resident, one of her neighbors saw a suspicious person throwing boxes in a trash bin. That neighbor then called the police. When a police officer arrived, he retrieved the packages from the garbage bin and traced the packages to the owner. The resident said five packages were supposed to arrive on Friday but after the officer recovered the packages, she only got two.

Police say if you plan to have packages delivered to your door, it might be a good idea to rent a postal box.

Amazon says they're starting to put up lockers in different stores and you can have your packages sent there.

Experts also say installing a doorbell camera can help you monitor your front door while you're not at home.
