(ABC 6 News) -- Officials said Dariaz Higgins has been in Olmsted County a couple of times in recent months. The 34-year-old is accused of abducting and killing 2-year-old Noelani Robinson after allegedly shooting and killing her mother.
Friday night, Noelani’s body was found in Steele County, 15 miles north of Austin.
Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales held a news conference Saturday morning.
"We believe this death did not occur within the last 24 hours. She had been there for quite some time which is consistent with the suspect’s time when he was in that area in Minnesota,” said Chief Alfonso Morales.
According to the BCA, crime scene personnel executed a search warrant at a hotel in Austin, where they believe Higgins stayed at one point last week.
Higgins has a criminal history in both Mower County and Olmsted County.
"Mr. Higgins had a domestic violence case in 2009," said Olmsted County Attorney Mark Ostrem.
According to a criminal complaint, in January 2009 he damaged his ex-girlfriend’s car in South West Rochester after she said she didn’t want to talk to him anymore.
When she came outside to ask what he was doing, he reportedly hit her in the back of the head with a closed fist.
Higgins wasn’t charged until March of that year. He pleaded not guilty and posted five thousand dollars conditional bail.
"At some point in 2010, when it was scheduled for trial he did not appear at that date. We've had a warrant issued for him since 2010," said Ostrem.
Ostrem said Higgins was arrested on that warrant this past January.
"Since January 25, he's appeared in court two more times, so he's made his appearances as scheduled. He was next scheduled to appear in April of 2019. Since we got him back he made the court appearances he was supposed to make," said Ostrem.
Higgins is currently in custody in Wisconsin. Nothing can happen on his Olmsted County charges until the Wisconsin case is resolved.
