(ABC 6 News) -- On Sunday, Iowa State Patrol responded to a report of hazardous material leaking from a semi truck traveling on Interstate 29.  Authorities said that at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, a motorist saw liquid coming from the semi-trailer and flagged it down. When state troopers arrived, they assessed the situation and decided that the material was hazardous. As a result, both northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 29 was shut down.

North bound traffic is being diverted at exit 75 Missouri Valley and southbound will be diverted at exit 112 Onawa to Nebraska.

Tri-County Hazmat and Council Bluffs fire Hazmat team are on location monitoring the spill and accessing the situation.

It is expected this will be an extended closure at this time.
