We're learning more details about the capture and now court appearance for former fugitive Lois Riess. Lois Riess appeared in court this morning on charges related to the murders of her husband in Blooming Prairie and an acquaintance from Florida.

A nationwide manhunt was initiated for Riess after investigators found the body of 54-year-old David Riess, who was fatally shot at their home in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. Investigators had reason to believe Riess was making her way down south, as she was spotted at a northern Iowa casino. From there, investigators believe she killed 59-year-old Pamela Hutchinson of Bradenton, Florida, and assumed her identity.

Police believe Riess was staying at a motel on South Padre Island and say she was at Dirty Al's Seafood Restaurant when an employee recognized her and made the call.

"Of course arraignment just took place, and detectives from both here and detectives from both here and the other two states are still collecting and comprising all the evidence and it looks like she'll be transferred to County for a short stint and as soon as the extradition takes place it looks like she's going to be going to Florida first and they are also trying to move some of the evidence, like the car, to Florida as they requested," said Police Chief of South Padre Island Randy Smith.  "The detectives did get the search warrants that they needed, and they went to the hotel room where she was staying and searched that room, and they were able to recover two pistols there, so that's been logged into evidence as well."

She is being held without bond after her arrest Thursday night.

"The detectives have been working for the last 24 hours or so, in a unified situation with the investigation. Obviously, it's really Minnesota and Florida's cases here on out, but we're here to help them in any way possible with everything that we can do, and we still are handling assistance with the evidence processing and we wrote up the warrants for things that are being done in Texas."
