A powerful cold front arrving Thursday morning will kick up strong wind gusts from the NW @ 40 mph. Those winds may be strong enough to cause blowing/drifting snow and even a few whiteouts on Thursday, especially west of I35. Emphasis on the *may*.
The wind strength alone would normally be a slam dunk to watch for white out conditions. However, recent drizzle has left a crust layer on the top of the snow which may help try to stave off the worst of conditions locally. It's a tough call. But we'll play it on the safe side. Should the wind be able to break through this crust and tap into the loose snow, travel slowdowns will be possible in the open. There is less of a crust on the snow west of I35 making these areas more susceptible to blowing snow.
Wind eases by evening alleviating the threat. *NO NEW SNOW WILL FALL* In fact, skies will be sunny.
