Frustrations Grow in Leroy over Staff Departures

(ABC 6 News) -- Residents of the Leroy-Ostrander school district have been trying to figure out why two staff members were escorted off school property.

More than 70 people packed into the music room at Leroy-Ostrander Tuesday night, looking for answers the school board wouldn't provide.

"It's absolutely terrible. We put these people entrusting our, making big decisions for our district and our children and they've done nothing but fail us to this point," said parent Ashley Huntley.

Two staff members were named at the meeting 5th-grade teacher Trevor Carrier and principal Aaron Hungerholt.

Both men coach football together and are also basketball coaches.

Residents, friends, staff, and parents said the two men were given no reason for their suspension.

Tuesday, residents asked the school board and the superintendent to dismiss the investigation and resign immediately.

"We call on the school board to take action tonight to ask Mr. Sampson to stop his investigation stop wasting any more money on the attorney he's using and quit messing with the student’s basketball season and get these guys back to coaching their teams,” Dave Lunning, a former board member said.

Those in attendance asked for the resignation of school board chair Justin Kennedy.

Despite community members requests the board votes against ending the investigation and reinstating the men as coaches.

"Disappointing. Extremely disappointing. It's like all common sense has left the building," Lunning said.

Both men have been re-instated as staff members of the district, but not as coaches.

I tried speaking to the superintendent and school board chair about the calls for their resignations. They declined to comment.
