(ABC 6 News)- Lt. Governor Tina Smith was the obvious choice among political analysts to replace Senator Al Franken.

The official announcement came out Wednesday morning when Governor Dayton appointed her to take Franken's soon to be vacant seat.

Blois Olson, founder and principal of Fluence Media, is a political speaker for a variety of news agencies. Olson commented on the soon to be state senator's leadership.

"She's a very calm, cool, collected leader. She doesn't panic under pressure," Olson said.

Smith started off her political career advising people on campaigns. Olson said because of this, she has an operative mentality on how to handle tense situations in politics.

Michelle Fischbach will assume the role of Lt. Governor and plans to keep serving as Senate President when Smith makes the shift to the Capitol.

The double duty could cause a balance of powers issue that will also have legal challenges.

The system is still uncertain on how to move forward, but Olson thinks it will iron itself out until the next legislative session in February.
