A Sunday fireball in the sky across the entire midwest.
The fireball happened at 8:40pm CDT, prior to sunset on July 8th, 2018. It was visible across 9 midwestern states including Minnesota and Iowa lasting about as many seconds. The path of the meteor is said to have a very shallow trajectory as it moved ESE across the region.
Nearly 300 reports have been verified by the American Meteor Society. Using these points to geolocate the path, the meteor traveled over parts of Iowa and Illinois, visible over a roughly 170 mile trek. If the meteor did survive its trip through the atmosphere a projected landing site is over SE Indiana.
An using the approximate details explained above, the meteor was traveling near 60,000 mph.
