(ABC 6 News) -- More than 50 riders geared up for the second annual “Iron Challenge” held at Ironwood Spring Christian Ranch Saturday.

Proceeds from the fat tire bike races will go to two local organizations: Christian based rehab and recovery center Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge as well as Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch which works with veterans and people with disabilities.

"We just felt that these were two organizations that could really use a boost from funding. We created this fat tire bike race and we are in our second iteration of it," said Race Director Allan Watts.

Last year, the event raised $10,000 for the two organizations.

Jose Koehler with Adult and Teen Challenge says the event helps raise awareness about the recovery center.

"There is a real need for helping those who are dealing with addictions. To have an organization like MN Adult and Teen Challenge Step up and say come on over to our program and we will make it better, we’ll make it right...it's amazing," he said.

For Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch, Executive Director Tracy Bashore says proceeds from the fundraiser will go to a wheelchair sports camp and an adult and youth cognitive challenges camp.

"I think it's wonderful. It creates awareness of both the missions that we have and both are here to help people with their challenges. That's what the “Iron Challenge” came from is just that idea that people have some things they need help with and that’s what both us and Adult and Teen Challenge do,” said Bashore.
