Suspect in Reported Armed Robbery Claims He Was 'Sleepwalking'

(ABC 6 News) - A 22-year-old Rochester man is facing possible 1st-Degree Aggravated Robbery and 5th-Degree Assault charges after he allegedly robbed a man at gunpoint in downtown Rochester early Saturday morning.

According to Rochester Police Department Captain John Sherwin, a man reported going out for a smoke with another man in an alley in the 100 block of 1st Ave. SW when the other man punched him in the face, held a handgun to his chin and demanded his wallet.

A short time later police saw a man fitting the suspect's description at a gas station near 16th Ave. and 2nd St. SW.  

Police found the victim's debit card and cash on the suspect, Anthony Hemphill, but did not find a handgun.

Hemphill told police he had not been downtown that evening but when police said they had video surveillance of him he said he must have been sleepwalking.
