(ABC 6 NEWS) -- On Tuesday, a Dodge County Sergeant said goodbye to what he calls family.

Court Security Sergeant Rich Allee retired Tuesday from the Dodge County Sheriff's Office. Sergeant Allee has been with the department for 16 years.

Friends, family and fellow officers came to support Allee Tuesday at the Dodge County Government Services Building.

Allee says the timing was right.

"It's not a goodbye. I'm still in the area, I'll still be around," said Sergeant Allee.

Prior to being in law enforcement, Allee served in the United States Marine Corps from 1981 to 1994. Allee officially started with the Dodge County Sheriff's Office back in 2001 as a patrol deputy. In 2011 he was promoted to patrol sergeant.

In his career at Dodge County, Allee was given three life-saving awards including one where he saved a baby using CPR.
