Dodge County Declares State of Emergency; Shelters Open

(ABC 6 News) -- Storm Damage across the area is forcing the Dodge County Sheriff's office to declare a state of emergency for the county Thursday night. 

Dodge County officials are putting together emergency shelters for anyone still without power.

Multiple township and county roads closed with barricades due to downed power poles and lines throughout the county. The county roads closed overnight are:
County Road 16 - Between CR11 and 252 Ave
County Road 4 - at the intersection of 230th Ave
County Road 13 - Between CR 6 West and East

As of 6 p.m. Thursday, power had been restored to almost 900 homes, leaving us with 3,472 homes still without power. Law enforcement, State and county plows, and our local tow companies worked all day long helping stranded motorists stuck both in the roadways and ditches.

The following Emergency Shelter locations are available for Dodge County residents:

Dodge Center- Faith Lutheran Church 308 2nd St NW
OPEN NOW
• Shelter up to 100
• Has wifi
• Bring blankets/ pillows
• Bring needed medications
• Bring cell phone/ charger
• Has bathrooms but no showers
• Pets OK if kennel brought with

Hayfield- Trinity Lutheran Church 104 1st St SE
OPEN NOW
• Bring pillows/ blankets
• Bring cell phone/ charger


Kasson/ Mantorville- KM High School 101 16th St NE
OPENING AT 7 PM
• Beds for 60-65
• Can shelter 100-150
• No pets unless service animals
• Bring blankets/pillow
• Bring cell phone/ charge
• Bathrooms and showers available- bring toiletries to include bath towel
• Wifi available


West Concord - Old Funeral home building west of fire department
OPENING AT 7 PM
• No pets unless service animals
• Bring blankets/pillow
• Bring cell phone/ charge
• Bathrooms available


Claremont- not opening a shelter unless needed
We have extra patrols out watching areas without service and roadways that are barricaded.
We’ve been told it could be 24-72 hours before everyone’s power is restored in the county.
