(ABC 6 News) -- The Dodge County boys hockey team's quest for their first-ever Class A state title ended in a loss Saturday night to the No. 2 seed Gentry Academy Stars.
"I thought we competed really hard," Wildcats' Head Coach Nick Worden said following Saturday's 8-1 loss. "I was really proud of the team yesterday and how they competed. Having the opportunity to go to the championship game was really exciting and the kids worked their tails off today."
Countless storylines within this game but one that jumped out was that both teams were playing in their first-ever state tournament.
Gentry Academy scored 8 goals, 4 of which came in the 3rd period, propelled them to an 8-1 victory. The Wildcats only goal was scored by future Gopher Brody Lamb, who also leads the state in goals and points. That goal marked Lamb's 10th of the tournament.
On defense, goalie Isaac Dale put up a brave fight making 43 saves blocking about 50 goal shots, but the Stars controlled the narrative of the game outshooting the Wildcats 54-9.
"We were right in it at least half that game," Worden said. "I can't say enough good things about all those kids."
