Kruckeberg Makes First Court Appearance, Released Without Bail

(ABC 6 News) - A Dodge Center man facing Criminal Vehicular Homicide charges for his involvement in a fatal crash last fall made his first appearance in court Wednesday.

According to court documents, 24-year-old Tanner Kruckeberg was given a list of conditions to abide by until his next court date on May 1 and was released without bail.

Kruckeberg is charged with two counts of felony criminal vehicular homicide stemming from the September 7 crash that took the lives of Blooming Prairie first-grade teacher Rachel Harberts and her 8-year-old daughter, her 12-year-old son was critically injured but survived.

Kruckeberg reportedly admitted that he "looked down to manually hang up his cell phone" when the Hummer he was driving rear-ended the Harberts' car on Highway 14 near Claremont.

Court documents state Kruckeberg's cell phone records indicate he was using an online banking app at the time of the crash. 

His criminal history includes several convictions for speeding as well as a 2014 conviction for texting while driving.
