(ABC 6 News) -- Five people were injured in a multiple-vehicle crash on Interstate 35 near Clear Lake Friday, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

Sgt. Mindy Coe said a vehicle was stopped near mile marker 197 on southbound I35 just before noon after the driver was believed to have suffered a medical issue. While that vehicle was stopped, another vehicle struck it, causing one of them to end up on its roof.

Five people suffered non-life threatening injuries and several people were taken to the hospital according to Coe.

A medical helicopter was called to the scene due to the number of injuries, but Coe said it's not clear whether it transported any victims.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Southbound I-35 was closed for about an hour as crews responded to the crash.

Multiple people are believed to be injured in a multiple-vehicle crash on Interstate 35 near Clear Lake Friday afternoon, according to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff's Department.

Cerro Gordo dispatch said a call came in around 11:50 a.m. for a medical emergency on southbound I35 at mile marker 197.

Shortly after the first call another call came in reporting that vehicle had been hit.

Crews are responding to the crash and working to determine the extent of any injuries. A medical helicopter has been dispatched to the scene.

Right now the Iowa Department of Transportation is reporting a 7-minute traffic delay in the area.
