2 killed in Hwy 14 crash identified

(ABC 6 News) - UPDATE: According to the Minnesota State Patrol incident report, the driver of the car involved in a fatal crash on Hwy 14 has been identified as Jay Wayne Logan, 57, of New Richland.

His passenger has been identified as Elizabeth Ann Logan, 52, of New Richland.

The incident report states both were wearing their seatbelts and no alcohol was involved.

12:05 a.m. - The Minnesota State Patrol has identified the driver of the semi involved in a two-vehicle crash that killed two people.

Merritt Lyle Davis, 75, of Cleveland, Minn., was taken to Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys Campus, with injuries that are described as not life-threatening.

The two that were killed on impact have been identified as a 57-year-old man and his 52-year-old female passenger, both of New Richland. Their names have not been released.

Minnesota State Patrol Sgt. Troy Christianson said the crash happened around 6 p.m. Wednesday. He said the semi was hauling a fertilizer type product and was traveling westbound on Highway 14 right at Dodge County 3 when the car traveling eastbound crossed the center line and struck the semi head-on.

10 p.m. - Minnesota State Patrol Sergeant Troy Christianson said a man and a woman in a passenger car were killed on impact after crossing the center line on Hwy 14 and colliding with a semi head-on.

Sgt. Christianson said the crash happened around 6 p.m.  He said the semi was hauling a fertilizer type product and was traveling westbound on Highway 14 right at Dodge County 3 when the car traveling eastbound crossed the center line.

Sgt. Christianson said the semi continued into the north ditch where it caught fire.  He said the driver was able to make it out of the truck with minor injuries and was taken to Saint Marys Hospital.

"Right now we're still investigating exactly why the semi did start on fire and we are in the process of doing the family notification and also doing a crash reconstruction of the crash scene," said Sgt. Christianson.

Sgt. Christianson said there's still a lot of work to do yet to determine exactly what happened.

9:25 p.m. The Minnesota State Patrol has confirmed to ABC 6 News that a crash on Highway 14 near Claremont Wednesday evening was a double fatal.

State Patrol said the crash happened around 6 p.m. between a semi-truck and a vehicle.  The male and female in the vehicle were killed on impact and the semi-truck driver suffered minor injuries.

State Patrol also said the semi-truck caught fire.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

This is a developing situation, we'll bring you more information as it becomes available.

According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, US 14 is closed in both directions between 120th Ave. and 150th Ave. near Claremont due to a crash.

MnDOT is reporting detours will be in place for the next few hours.

Kasson police, Minnesota State Patrol and MnDOT are at the scene.  

Emergency personnel also said the medical examiner did respond.
