(ABC 6 News) -- Rochester Police Chief Jim Franklin looked at the last few months since he was chosen to take over as the city's newest police chief in July 2018.

Chief Franklin highlighted some of the department's efforts to connect with the community including programs like the New Americans Academy which aims to educate immigrants on the law or the Badges and Board Games initiative which allowed officers to connect with the youth in our area.

Franklin said he's proud of the department's commitment to make the community a better place.

"All the programs that we implemented in the last 18 months are in alignment with the 21st-century policing concepts and really getting to the grassroots of community policing, engaging the community, making this community a safer place," Franklin said.

Franklin said he's excited for what 2020 has to offer, and hopes the department will provide exceptional service and protection for Rochester.
