July 23, 2017 11:16 PM

(ABC 6 News) -- This year the town of Byron celebrated its 150th birthday. Sunday marked the final day of The Good Neighbor Days celebration and they kicked it off with a ‘Kids Mile Run’. The organization hosting the run was Team Red a local club dedicated to bringing fitness into the community.

Tom O’Leary, founder of Team Red told ABC 6 News, "This event is totally aimed at getting kids active and giving them the opportunity to run in front of some spectators. We just want people to have fun. All the volunteers have a lot of fun watching it! So if that energy that we are feeling is coming off of those kids, then it's worth it."

Kids ran while being cheered on by friends, family, and members of the community. Aiden Feda is one of the young runners, he said, "I wanted to run for fun and see how good I could do. I liked it because there were kids my age."

Following the run, everyone in Byron lined the streets to enjoy the town parade.
